EVA Air Corporation, the premium 5-star airline from Taiwan, has rolled out its Evidence-Based Training (EBT) initiative, moving the airline into a new era of analysis-based training management solution.

In late 2014, EVA Air embarked on an exciting project to introduce Evidence-based Training (EBT) in response to EVA Air’s attitude of ‘Safety First’ plus the realisation that aviation training, in general, had become outdated. This was followed by a small focused team set up to analyse the size and scope of the project before deciding on the solution. The Airline implemented the human aspect of changes necessary within the training department and airline before selecting and implementing the Peak Pacific EBT software product, ‘CLEAR’ to power its EBT initiative.

The CLEAR Suite is the flagship software product from Peak Pacific, the Hong Kong-based Learning & Technology provider that is a dominant and leading provider of Aviation Learning solutions.

According to EVA Air’s Director of Training, Capt. Gary Peng 彭雙勇, "EVA Air is always focused on the importance and quality of our training product in generating safe and effective performance in our pilots. We recognized the challenges faced by our flight crews, and made the choice to upgrade crew competencies by modernizing recurrent training to a 21st century methodology. We chose Evidence Based Training (EBT), endorsed by ICAO, which includes core competencies a pilot needs to operate safely, effectively, and efficiently, and considers the generation of the technologically advanced aircraft in the EVA AIR fleet."

Capt. Gary Peng 彭雙勇 added, "as part of managing the change, it was necessary to incorporate a software solution to effectively administer and manage the EBT program. EVA partnered with Peak Pacific and selected their CLEAR Suite. CLEAR includes a comprehensive and secure competency based assessment and grading system, with data collection and analysis tools. Also of importance, is the ability to work on multiple platforms, desktops, laptops and mobile devices, both on and offline. The system is expandable and provides all the capabilities EVA requires as we continue to transfer all training programs to the CLEAR Suite, and for future growth."

Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB), the national carrier of Malaysia, is all set to embark on its Evidence-Based Training (EBT) journey. The Airline announced that it has selected Peak Pacific to provide its product, ‘CLEAR’ to drive its EBT initiative. The move marks a major shift in the airline’s training direction, and also makes it one of the first airlines in the region to adopt a fully integrated EBT philosophy.

The CLEAR Suite is the flagship software from Peak Pacific, the Hong Kong-based Learning & Technology provider that is a domain expert and leading provider of Aviation Learning solutions.

According to MAB's Chief Operations Officer, Captain Izham Ismail, "Malaysia Airlines have been looking for an EBT solution as part of our new strategy for pilot training. Peak Pacific is the right fit for us as they have systems built specifically for EBT. They also have a better understanding of our environment and training requirements. The EBT is a new training programme that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has been actively promoting in recent years."

He added, "Safety is of Malaysia Airlines' utmost priority. The EBT is just one of our efforts to continuously enhance safety and we will be among the first in the region to invest and embark on this implementation of Baseline EBT."

Peak Pacific acquires FFA eLearning business

Hong Kong-based Learning and Learning Technology provider, Peak Pacific Limited, has purchased the eLearning content business of Helsinki-based Finnair Flight Academy ((FFA). The acquisition of the eLearning library enables Peak Pacific to expand its footprint in the Aviation eLearning market in Europe.

Peak Pacific and Finnair Flight Academy were already engaged as business partners in co-developing high quality eLearning modules for their customers. Earlier in 2016, as part of its broader business consolidation towards core training services, the FFA decided to sell its interest in the eLearning business partnership to long-time partner, Peak Pacific Group.

Peak Pacific Founder & CEO, Kishor Mistry, said the purchase was part of the Group’s plans to consolidate its presence in the European market. “Our business relationship with the Finnair Flight Academy has been exemplary and we are delighted that the FFA has entrusted us with the care of their European eLearning customers. This acquisition gives us a consolidated library of over 160 high-quality eLearning programmes that we can offer to our global customers."

Cost Reduction and Regulatory Compliance

As a short-term goal, Finnair Flight Academy also needed to reduce overall costs by eliminating multiple platforms, reducing the need for helpdesk contacts and enabling 3rd party training delivery to its external customers and to partners throughout the whole Finnair Group.

"We used to have an array of tools and processes to create and deploy training. With one integrated solution, we are now able to create and maintain training solutions and records under the same LMS umbrella," explained Salminen.

Air Hong Kong, a dedicated freighter airline based in Hong Kong has signed an agreement with Peak Pacific for a hosted Learning Management System (LMS) service. The LMS will be used to deliver online material which will benefit the airlines staff by providing access to learning anytime, anywhere.

Kishor Mistry, Chief Executive Officer of Peak Pacific Limited, won the 2009 E-Learning Industry Award for Outstanding Achievement - Individual', at an award ceremony in London on 12 Thursday, November 2009.

The awards night was attended by e-learning industry professionals and experts, covering 15 categories and producing a record 35 winners.

Leading Low Cost Carrier (LCC), Air Arabia, has moved to a 100% electronic training environment by implementing Peak Pacific's 'clear' Training Management System. The airline completed its transition from a fully paper-based environment to fully electronic in March 2016 – it had earlier received approval from the GCAA for the operational use of the 'clear' system. The move is part of Air Arabia's shift to a scalable and evidence-based solution, as part of its overall strategy.

Captain Sami SLIM, (Manager Training) for Air Arabia shared the significance of the move. "Till a year ago, we were filing 240 forms a month on simulator training and 260 forms from line training. Today, we are 100% electronic. The 'clear' system allows us to manage training schedules, conduct training assessments, grade students (online/offline) and report on the many data sets available within the system against various groups and company benchmarks, thereby providing evidence-based data from the training performance. This has enabled our training team to focus on analysing and acting upon the data," he elaborated.

Finnair Flight Academy (FFA) and the Peak Pacific Group today announced their new partnership to provide anytime anywhere e-Learning solutions for the global aerospace industry. The companies are expected to unveil their products at WATS 2013 in Orlando, Florida (April 16-18).

The partnership will leverage Peak Pacific's aviation e-Learning expertise and FFA's content expertise to provide courseware for flight crew and cabin crew audience. It will also combine FFA's reach in Europe, Middle East, and Russia with Peak Pacific's global market presence in APAC, Middle East, India, and North America.
